The Trojan Horse: How Spiritual Compromise Opens the Gates

This past week, as I sat processing the election results of Virginia and other states, I heard the words TROJAN HORSE.”

This topic has been discussed by many over the years, but when I heard it, it came heavy—loud, hard, and cinematic. It wasn’t just a passing phrase; it was a warning.

Prior to November 4th, 2025, I had been walking around with a rumble in my spirit. This year, that rumble has only grown deeper and louder.

I pray that as you read this, God would give you a heart of flesh instead of one filled with stones—soft enough to hear Him, open enough to see what He alone is saying, and willing enough to lay aside personal preference, political ideology, or cultural loyalty for the sake of truth.

The History: The Biblical Parallel, The Atonomy, and The American Church

The city of Troy was not crushed by an outside attack—it was deceived by a “gift.” The horse did not smash through the gates; it was welcomed in by a people weary of war and desperate for peace. That is how deception always works. It doesn’t look like a threat. It flatters. It appeals to comfort. It disguises destruction as peace.

Jesus illustrated this very principle in the parable of the wheat and the tares:

“But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.” (Matthew 13:25, ESV)

The problem wasn’t that an enemy sowed—that’s what enemies do. The problem was that the men were asleep. Scripture warns us not to partner with darkness or assume that every “good-sounding” thing is from God:

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14, ESV)

We are commanded:

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1, ESV)

The Greek word for “test” is dokimazō. It means to test the spirits to determine if they are genuine or counterfeit. We are commanded to test every spirit—not with suspicion or pride, but with holiness and humility:

“Discernment that comes from God is Holy.”

The Anatomy of the Trojan Horse

  1. The Strategy: Deception, Not Direct Force. The enemy cannot win by a frontal assault. Jesus promised, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Satan’s strategy is to deceive the Church so he can be invited in, disguised as an “angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).
  2. The Disguise: A “Gift” of Apparent Virtue. Deception is never packaged as “sin.” It is packaged as “love” (divorced from truth), “unity” (divorced from doctrine), or “tolerance” (divorced from discernment). The American Church has currently wheeled this “gift” inside the gates.
  3. The Vulnerability: Weariness and “Sleep.” Why did Troy accept the gift? They were tired of war. It was easier to chill than it was to be aware and prepared. The enemy sowed weeds “while his men were sleeping” (Matthew 13:25). The American Church is extremely vulnerable and majority have grown tired of contending for the faith (Jude 1:3).
  4. The Mechanism: The “Leaven” from Within. The Horse itself wasn’t the threat; it was the vessel for the soldiers inside. This is the principle of leaven (bad teaching). “Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?” (1 Corinthians 5:6). A “small” compromise on doctrine is a soldier hidden in the horse, designed to spread “like gangrene” (2 Timothy 2:17) once inside.
  5. The Goal: Open the Gates for the Full Invasion. The hidden soldiers did not conquer Troy. Their mission was to open the gates for the entire enemy army. A “small” compromise on the authority of Scripture opens the gates to moral relativism. A “small” compromise on the exclusivity of Christ (Acts 4:12) opens the gates to universalism.

False Unity and the Spirit of Compromise

We live in a generation that worships the word unity. But the question we must ask is, unity around what?

God values true unity, the kind born of the Holy Spirit and grounded in truth. The world’s version is different—it demands that truth be trimmed, conviction silenced, and doctrine blurred to make everyone feel included.
This false unity is not biblical peace; it is spiritual anesthesia.

We see it in movements that place Jesus among many “good options,” in slogans like coexist, and in interfaith partnerships that deny His exclusive Lordship.

This is the wooden wheel of our generation’s Trojan Horse—the idea that all faiths lead to the same God and that conviction is the enemy of peace.
Scripture warned us this day would come:

“For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed.” (2 Thessalonians 2:3, ESV)

Discerning the Difference in Worldviews

Discernment means being able to see the difference between worldviews. To love someone well through the gospel of Jesus Christ, you must know what they believe, why they believe it, and what you believe, and why you believe it.

Sharia—Islamic religious law—claims to be a “path” to righteousness, but its core tenets stand in direct contradiction to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Below is a simplified look at what traditional Sharia teaches, contrasted with the freedom of the Gospel:

TopicSharia (Islamic Law)The Gospel (Biblical Truth)
ApostasyLeaving Islam is considered a capital offense. Under traditional law, an adult male who leaves the faith is to be executed.Repentance and belief are voluntary acts of love. God offers freedom, not coercion. (John 8:36)
PunishmentPrescribes physical punishments such as flogging, amputation, or stoning.Christ has already borne the punishment for sin on the cross. (Isaiah 53:5)
WomenPlaces women under male authority and unequal standing.Restores equality at the cross, where “there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
MarriagePermits underage marriage and polygamy in many interpretations.Commands covenant faithfulness and purity, honoring marriage as a reflection of Christ and His Church. (Ephesians 5:25)

The path of Sharia and the Law of the Spirit cannot coexist. The Spirit of Islam is not the Holy Spirit. We are called to love our Muslim neighbors by offering them the one, true, liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ, which frees us from the law of sin and death.

In short, the underbelly of Islam is Anti-Christ. God wants them saved. But you will not be able to effectively evangelize to them by coming in a spirit that is in direct opposition to The Holy Spirit.

Here are examples of attitudes, postures, and spiritual “tones” that stand in direct opposition to the Holy Spirit — contrasted with what the Holy Spirit actually produces:

Spirit in Opposition to the Holy SpiritFruit / Nature of the Holy SpiritWhy It’s Ineffective in Evangelism
Spirit of Pride — approaching others as morally superior, self-righteous, or boastful in knowledge.Spirit of Humility — Jesus “emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant.” (Philippians 2:7–8)Pride hardens hearts and makes truth feel like condemnation, not invitation.
Spirit of Fear — trying to reach others from a place of anxiety, intimidation, or insecurity.Spirit of Power, Love, and Sound Mind (2 Timothy 1:7)Fear produces hesitation or aggression, not authority or compassion.
Spirit of Condemnation — declaring judgment without mercy or redemption.Spirit of Conviction — reveals sin but always points to grace and repentance (John 16:8–11).Condemnation drives people away; conviction draws them to Christ.
Spirit of Anger or Contention — arguing to win rather than to love.Spirit of Gentleness — “A gentle tongue breaks a bone.” (Proverbs 25:15)Quarreling creates resistance; gentleness opens ears and hearts.
Spirit of Deception or Compromise — diluting the Gospel to seem “inclusive” or politically correct.Spirit of Truth — “He will guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13)Compromise empties the Gospel of power; truth spoken in love transforms.
Spirit of Control or Manipulation — trying to force belief or use fear tactics.Spirit of Freedom — “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)Coercion violates free will; love invites voluntary surrender.
Spirit of Unforgiveness or Bitterness — harboring resentment toward those in deception.Spirit of Grace and Mercy — “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)Bitterness blocks spiritual authority and clouds discernment.
Spirit of Division or Partiality — us vs. them mentality.Spirit of Reconciliation — “God… gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18)Division mirrors the enemy’s kingdom; reconciliation mirrors God’s heart.
Spirit of Self-Reliance — depending on intellect, strategy, or argument rather than prayer.Spirit of Dependence — “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6)Human wisdom can’t break spiritual blindness; only the Spirit can.

American Parallels and Warnings

The strategy of infiltration isn’t new. It’s a recurring pattern in history.

During World War II, America’s alliance with the Soviet Union seemed like a gift, but the soldiers hidden inside were the atomic spies who smuggled U.S. secrets to Moscow.

Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan’s diplomats promised peace while their strike force sailed in silence. The “gift” of negotiation was a distraction to ensure the watchmen were asleep.

Likewise, the Church in America cannot afford to be lulled by false peace.
Ezekiel 33:6 warns:

“But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.”

The Voice of False Prophets

In the coming days, you’ll hear voices telling you not to worry—that this is not the end, that talk of judgment or spiritual warfare is “too extreme.”
But this is the same deception the prophets of Israel faced:

“They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 6:14, ESV)

This spirit of apathy is not the Holy Spirit. It is a lying spirit designed to lull the Church into spiritual sleep. The true Shepherd does not call His watchmen to passivity—He calls them to prayer, fasting, repentance, and obedience.

The Offensive Kingdom

The Kingdom of God is not defensive; it is offensive. Jesus said,

“I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18, ESV)

Gates are defensive structures that the Church is not meant to hide behind. Our spiritual armor is designed for movement. Our feet are “shod with the readiness of the gospel of peace,” and our weapon is “the sword of the Spirit.” (Ephesians 6:15–17)

We are not spectators of prophecy; we are participants in God’s advancing Kingdom. Our command is not “Hunker down.” Our command is “Go.” Our spiritual armor is for an advancing soldier:

Think about it in sports or warfare.

  • The Defensive Posture: The team on defense is forced to react. They don’t know the play. They don’t know where the attack will land or when it will come. They are always one step behind, easily fooled, and easily worn out. This is the Church that is always in crisis-mode, always scrambling to “survive” the latest cultural assault.
  • The Offensive Posture: The team on offense has a plan. They have a strategy. They see better because they are not looking at a thousand potential threats; they are looking at one objective. The offensive team dictates the pace. The enemy is forced to react to them.

When your mind is on the offense—on “making disciples” and “proclaiming the Word” or “occupying until He comes”—your vision becomes clear. The Trojan Horse of “false unity” becomes an irrelevant distraction, because you are already on the enemy’s turf, taking back ground for the King.

A Warning in the Turbulence

For decades, the American Church has watched persecution from a safe distance.

Persecution is coming closer to home. It will not only be overseas or in headlines—it will be personal. It will look like friends who turn cold, family who mocks, and systems that punish truth-tellers.

But even in that shaking, there is hope. The same Jesus who warned of deception is the same Jesus who empowers His Church to overcome it. He promised,

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

The true Church will not be conquered from within. She will rise, awake, and reclaim ground that has been given away to comfort, deception, and fear.

Now is the hour to wake, discern, and advance. The gates of hell will not prevail. But we must be clear: Real persecution is coming to American soil. Here is what Jesus had to say about it:

NATION WILL

rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom..

BUT BEFORE ALL THIS THEY WILL

“lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake.”

THIS WILL BE

“.. your opportunity to bear witness.

SETTLE IT THEREFORE IN YOUR MINDS

“..not to meditate beforehand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.”

YOU WILL BE DELIVERED

“..up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends,..”

, AND SOME OF YOU THEY WILL

“.. put to death.”

YOU WILL BE HATED

“…by all for my name’s sake.

BUT NOT

..”a hair of your head will perish.

BY ENDURANCE YOU WILL

“…gain your lives.”

(Luke 21:10-19, ESV)

This is not a time for panic, but for preparation. Settle it in your mind. The persecution that is coming is not a sign of God’s absence; it is your “opportunity to bear witness.” The call is not to comfort, but to endurance. As Jesus also said, “Only those who endure until the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13).

In all this, Jesus gives us our posture. A few verses later, He gives this that we must thank Him for:

“Now when these things begin to take place, STRAIGHTEN UP and RAISE YOUR HEADS, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28, ESV)

Your Prep Guide: Four Books From The Bible

As you read and study the book of Revelation, do not study it in a vacuum. To truly understand what is happening, how to prepare, and how to posture your heart before the Lord, study it with these three other books:

  1. Matthew: Chapters 24 and 25 give you Jesus’ own teaching on the signs of the end, the nature of deception, and the command to be watchful and ready.
  2. Daniel: You cannot understand Revelation’s prophecies without Daniel. This book provides the framework for the “times of the Gentiles,” the rise of global kingdoms, and the coming Antichrist.
  3. Acts: This book is the model for the offensive Church. It is the playbook for bold witness, spiritual power, and Kingdom advancement in the face of intense persecution.

Together, these four books—Matthew, Acts, Daniel, and Revelation—provide a complete picture. You will see what is happening, God will help you understand how to prepare, and know how to posture your heart in holiness and endurance.
